Pocola, Oklahoma — Our Republican Legacy (ORL), a national organization dedicated to advancing principled conservative leadership rooted in integrity and service, today announced the appointment of Gaylon Freeman as its Oklahoma State Chair.

Freeman brings decades of leadership in education, local government, and public service to his new role. Raised on his family’s farm in Pocola, Oklahoma, he has spent his career as a mathematics teacher, coach, and school principal, while also serving as Mayor of Pocola, a three-term City Council member, and later as the elected County Assessor of Le Flore County.

During his tenure as Mayor, Freeman helped reduce municipal debt by $600,000 while strengthening services and staffing. As County Assessor, he modernized the office by introducing electronic documentation, new technology systems, and professional certifications for staff — all while coming in under budget. He has also been active in civic life, leading mission trips across the U.S. and abroad, and maintaining the family farm where he raises Angus cattle.

“Gaylon’s career demonstrates the kind of leadership Our Republican Legacy exemplifies,” said Senator John Danforth, Founder of ORL. “From the classroom to City Hall to the County Courthouse, he has shown that fiscal responsibility and character go hand in hand. We are proud to welcome him as our Oklahoma State Chair.”

Freeman holds a Master of Education in Public School Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeastern State University, along with decades of experience in teaching and community leadership.

As State Chair, Freeman will work to expand ORL’s network across Oklahoma, support principled Republican leadership, and continue building the organization’s mission of restoring integrity and public service to American politics ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections

In his new role, Freeman will help advance ORL’s mission, built around five core principles:

  1. Unity

  2. The Constitution

  3. Fiscal Responsibility

  4. Free Enterprise

  5. Peace through Strength.

Our Republican Legacy was founded in 2024 by former Republican Senators John Danforth, William Cohen, and the late Alan Simpson, along with 34 other distinguished former Republican Members of Congress and elected officials. The organization promotes five enduring principles: unity, the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, free enterprise, and peace through strength.
