WASHINGTON, D.C. – At its fall meeting, Our Republican Legacy (ORL) adopted a new mission statement and formally resolved to focus on a 2028 strategy that prepares the GOP for a post-Trump era. The organization is building its infrastructure state by state, precinct by precinct, and has already gained significant momentum since its first national meeting in May 2025.
Since its founding earlier this year, ORL has recruited 22 state chairs, including in the key states of South Carolina and Utah, and is actively expanding its national committee, intending to operate in all 50 states.
“We know from history that the direction of an American political party is set by the fight for its presidential nomination,” said Governor Marc Racicot, ORL National Chairman, former Governor of Montana, and RNC Chair. “Our work between now and 2028 is about ensuring that Republicans once again stand for unity, integrity, fiscal responsibility, free enterprise, and strength abroad.”
At the meeting, ORL leaders underscored that 2028 will be the pivotal election determining the party’s post-Trump direction. With Donald Trump term-limited and Vice President Vance widely seen as a weak heir apparent, ORL argues the moment is ripe for traditional Republicans to reclaim the party’s founding principles.
Those five principles, as adopted in the new mission statement, are:
The Union – one nation, not warring factions.
The Constitution & Rule of Law – respect for elections, Congress, and the courts.
Fiscal Responsibility – tackling the national debt.
Free Enterprise – resisting tariffs, price controls, and excessive government intervention.
Peace Through Strength – maintaining America’s global leadership.
Founded in April 2024 by former Senators John Danforth, William Cohen, and the late Sen. Alan Simpson, along with 34 other distinguished Republican leaders, ORL bills itself as the inheritor of true Republican values.
“Just as the conservative movement once organized to nominate Barry Goldwater in 1964, Our Republican Legacy is laying the groundwork for a legacy Republican president in 2028,” said Chris Vance, ORL Senior Adviser, former Washington State GOP Chairman, and the Republican Party’s 2016 U.S. Senate nominee in Washington.
ORL emphasized that it is a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization – not a PAC – and will not endorse candidates or make donations. Instead, the group will focus on public messaging, grassroots mobilization, and organizing Republicans who reject MAGA extremism.
