Our Republican Legacy Appoints Nicholas Rostow as Vermont Chair

Montpelier, Vermont — Our Republican Legacy (ORL) today announced the appointment of Nicholas Rostow as its new Vermont Chair. Rostow brings decades of experience in international law, national security, and public service to the organization’s mission.


Rostow is an Executive Partner at Zumpano, Patricios, P.A.,  in New York and a Senior Research Scholar at Yale Law School. He is also a fellow of the Dartmouth College Institute for Security, Technology, and Society and the Center for Advanced Studies on Terrorism.


Over the course of his career, Rostow has held a wide range of senior academic and government roles, including University Professor and Senior Director of the Center for Strategic Research at the National Defense University, and University Counsel and Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs at the State University of New York. His federal service includes positions as General Counsel and Senior Policy Adviser to the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Charles H. Stockton Chair in International Law at the U.S. Naval War College, Staff Director of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Special Assistant to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush for National Security Affairs and Legal Adviser to the National Security Council.


He began his legal career at Shearman & Sterling in New York and earned his B.A., Ph.D. in history, and J.D. from Yale University.


Rostow brings deep public service and academic credentials to ORL’s effort to advance the enduring principles of Republican leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush.
