One of ORL’s main guiding principles is fiscal responsibility. We are committed to a sound economy and renewed fiscal discipline to protect our economy and markets.

ORL supports the rule of law.  We believe in the Constitution, the separation of powers among three branches of our federal government, the authority of Courts to interpret the law, and the independent and impartial enforcement of the law. We uphold the principle of due process for all.

Last year, former U.S. Sens. John Danforth of Missouri, William Cohen of Maine and Alan Simpson of Wyoming, and 34 other former Republican elected officials, including the later former Washington Gov. Dan Evans, launched Our Republican Legacy, an organization to resist Trump’s new populist, radical version of the GOP, and to reassert our support for traditional Republicanism.

The United States of America is at a precarious moment. Our Constitutional republic is hanging by a thread when the President himself seems uncertain about his obligation to uphold the Constitution — while those who do are being honored for their courage, as though fidelity to our founding principles were exceptional rather than fundamental.

ORL strongly supports Ukraine against Russia’s illegal war. We oppose the Administration’s unwillingness to support Ukraine’s ability to negotiate from a position of military and economic strength against Russia and the administration’s refusal to include Ukraine in the talks regarding Ukraine’s own fate.

ORL strongly supports the independence of the Federal Reserve to fulfill its mission of price stability and long-term employment.

There are a lot of things that one could say about President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, but one way you should not describe them is conservative. They represent views opposite from true conservative economists such as the gold standard: Milton Friedman (economics pun intended).

John Danforth has joined an Amici Brief in a case before the U.S. Court of International Trade arguing that President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs exceed his legal and Constitutional authority. ORL calls on congressional Republicans to take back Congress' authority over tariffs and return our trade policy to solid free market principles.

ORL strongly opposes the current tariffs, which have been levied illegally in any case. The on-again, off-again tariffs will cause even more economic uncertainty and deter beneficial trade with, and needed investment in, the United States to grow our economy and expand opportunities over time.
